Existing OCNW Provision Below Level 2
In February 2005 the government outlined its plans for improving learning for 14 - 19 year olds in a White Paper entitled 14-19 Education and Skills. In this document called for learning that 'tackled disengagement' by providing stronger vocational routes into employment. In order to do this the government has directed large amounts of resources and expertise into improving the curriculum offer for the 14 - 19 age group.
For our part of the bargain, OCNW developed a large portfolio of Entry Level vocational qualifications that are specifically targeted at 14 - 19 year olds. The qualifications aim to engage learners who would normally reject the traditionally more academically focused GCSEs by placing a strong emphasis on practical skills. Along side these vocationally specific skills, the qualifications also develop generic employability skills that ensure the learner has the correct attitude towards work and learning.
The intention is that over the coming years these qualifications will be redeveloped into new QCF qualifications for inclusion in the FLT
