Assessment
The Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through the completion of externally set tasks provided by OCNW. The tasks must be carried out under supervised conditions and are marked externally upon their completion.
The assessments range from 1 hour to 3 hours in length and test the learners’ skills in their particular subject in a variety of contexts. OCNW has developed the contexts of the assessments to make them open and accessible to everyone.
For the second year of the pilot assessments may only be carried out during predetermined assessment periods that occur three times during the year. There will be one window around Christmas, one around Easter and one in the Summer term. The exact dates and still to be confirmed but will be made available in September.
English Functional Skills qualifications also include a Speaking and Listening element. This assessed through a course work task in class that need not necessarily be carried out during the assessment window. This assessment is marked and moderated internally.
