What is the new ITQ?
The new ITQs are a suite of vocationally related qualifications developed around a flexible framework. Unlike the NVQs these qualifications replace, the new ITQs can be delivered in a college setting as well as in the workplace. The ITQs are on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
The Benefits and Flexibility of the new ITQs
-
These qualifications have been developed in line with relevant National Occupational Standards, ensuring they meet the needs of employers. The focus is on building up the skills needed through selection of appropriate units.
-
The ITQs are built up of a number of units, which can be tailored to meet the needs of the individual learner and / or employer. This allows learning to be delivered in small bite-sized pieces.
-
The large number of optional units available allows the learner to study topics which best meet their needs
-
The inclusion of sector specific units allows centres to adapt the qualifications to meet specific learner and / or employer needs.
-
Learners can complete additional units to progress them from the award through to the certificate and diploma if they wish. Credits can be carried forward between the qualification sizes for up to 3 years
-
The ITQs allow for the recognition of prior achievement. Credits can be transferred, avoiding the requirement to repeat learning where appropriate.
-
These qualifications allow learners to import existing QCF units and recognise exempt and equivalent units.
-
The use of optional units allows different levels and sizes of qualification to be achieved. Spiky profiles are also permitted (within the rules of combination). This includes units at entry 3 – level 3.
Minimum credit values
In order to achieve the Award / Certificate / Diploma, learners must achieve a minimum number of credits (within the rules of combination).

Assessment and Moderation
-
The ITQs are internally assessed and internally verified. They will then be externally moderated in line with standard Ascentis procedures.
-
Assessment of the ITQs is through a portfolio of evidence
-
There is no requirement for assessors and internal verifiers to hold the A1/V1 awards as it is no longer an NVQ.
-
All units can be assessed in a college or work environment.
Further Information
The specification is now available, providing further details on these qualifications.

NEW Personal Development for Progression (500/3949/0)
This is a new qualification designed to prepare learners for progression from FE to HE. Equipping learners with a wide range of necessary skills, this UCAS recognised qualification has been designed to replace the existing Curriculum Enrichment Programme (CEP). The qualification is appropriate for learners aged 16+ and is offered with free learner and tutor resources.
Employment related qualifications include Conflict Management and Health and Safety that give the learner generic employment skills applicable across many sectors. There are a range of popular qualifications at entry level and above, suitable for learners from 14+ that prepare learners for further training or employment within a vocational area together with introducing general employability skills.
Some of these qualifications have learning materials to accompany them if the centre wishes to purchase the materials. These are particularly appropriate if the learning is being delivered by distance or blended learning. Where these are available details are found within the specification.
