Summary

The OCNW Certificate in Adult Literacy at Entry 1, 2 and 3 is an ideal qualification for adults wishing to develop basic literacy skills. It is based on the National Standards for Adult Literacy and has several features to make it appropriate to its target learners:

Unit certification is available for each of the units:

Moderation and certification can be offered throughout the year, allowing maximum flexibility for centres

Evidence can be generated within a wide range of contexts enabling tutors to design a course appropriate to the needs and interests of the learners

Assessment

To achieve the full award Unit 2, Reading and Unit 3, Writing must be assessed through OCNW approved tasks, and Unit 1, Speaking and Listening assessed through internal assessment. OCNW tasks are available for the external assessment; alternatively centres may devise their own tasks and submit them to OCNW for approval. These tasks must be stored in centres under secure conditions and conducted in centres under supervised conditions.

Internal and external moderation are a requirement for both the internally and externally assessed components of the full award.

If unit certification only is required this can be assessed through internal assessment only. However if the candidate wishes to claim the full award in the future they will have to satisfy the requirements of external assessment.
