TEACHER TRAINING & RELATED QUALIFICATIONS 

OCNW offers a full range of QCA approved teacher training and learning support qualifications the majority of which are available on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)

Teacher Training

OCNW has the following QCA approved/SVUK endorsed quailifications available:

• Level 3 and 4 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
• Level 3 and 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
• Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)
• Level 5 Additional Diploma in Teaching English (Literacy) in the Lifelong Learning Sector
• Level 5 Additional Diploma in Teaching Mathematics (Numeracy) in the Lifelong Learning Sector
• Level 5 Diploma in Teaching English (ESOL) in the Lifelong Learning Sector

The assessment strategy comprises the completion of a structured portfolio of assessment.  The framework for this is within the qualification specifications and provides may opportunities to generate evidence arising out of practically based activities including teaching practice.  The need to write lengthy theory based essays is kept to a minimum.

Learning Support Qualifications

Qualifications for those in general learning support role

OCNW has new learning support qualifications available for those already within or thinking of entering a general learning support role, working across a range of subjects and learner types:

• Level 2 and 3 Award in Preparing to Support Learning
• Level 3 Certificate in Learning Support

These qualifications are available within the QCF

Qualifications for those in a speciallist role

LLUK is currently working on the design and units of assessment for qualifications for those in a specialist learning support role.  These qualifications should be available through OCNW from September 2009.

In the interim there are a number of qualifications available for those supporting the learning of Skills for Life learners.  These qualifications will be available untill the end of August 2009:

• Level 2 Literacy, Language, Numeracy and ICT Awareness
• Level 2 Learning Support (Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL) 
• Level 3 Adult Literacy Subject Support
• Level 3 Adult Numeracy Subject Support
