This OCNW qualification provides learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding of basic food safety and food hygiene and will help them to practically apply these both in the home and in the workplace. The qualification introduces the idea of continuous risk assessment which can help improve the general level of hygiene for food handling activities. The qualification allows the learners to develop a good practical understanding of food safety and encourages them to apply their knowledge and develop their skills in the work area -this is reflected in the size of the qualification. It can be delivered either as a classroom based course or as a blended learning programme
The unit of this qualification is assessed through the building up of a portfolio of evidence.
To achieve the qualification all assessment criteria within the ‘What you need to do’ section of the unit must be achieved.
Internal and external moderation are a requirement for this unit.
