The OCNW Level 1 and 2 Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life qualifications meet the requirements of the national standards for adult literacy together with coverage of the national core curriculum for ESOL. The qualifications are available in the three modes of Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing.
There are several features of these qualifications that make them very appropriate for both tutors and candidates:
Assessment dates determined by the centre not OCNW
User friendly mark schemes
Clear linkage between the ESOL core curriculum and the assessment tasks
The OCNW ESOL Skills for Life qualifications require evidence of achievements of the skills that are set out in each unit within the specification. To achieve the full all mode qualification there are two types of external assessment to be completed:
Reading mode is assessed through the National Literacy test. This is a multiple-choice test paper provided by QCA and is available through OCNW on demand. The test papers and answer sheets must be returned back to OCNW who optically mark candidates answer sheets, provide the centre within a pass/fail list and candidates with certificates.
The Speaking & Listening and Writing modes are assessed through OCNW devised external assessments comprising of a number of tasks that the candidate needs to complete. The tutor marks the assessments using the mark schemes provided by OCNW and then the assessments are internally moderated and externally moderated by OCNW.
