Summary

The Certificate in Personal Development for Progression was formerly known as the Curriculum Enrichment Programme.

The qualification focuses on project management and team work and allows the learner to develop and demonstrate a variety of skills including generic and wider key skills at level 3. The qualification is targeted at post-16 learners and equips them with a number of skills essential for progression into higher education and / or successful careers.

Learners are required to: plan a project, complete a logbook, take part in a group presentation, contribute towards the production of a group report, contribute towards the production of a final product, complete 11 statements within their individual negotiation, justifying and explaining their role within the project.

In order to successfully achieve the qualification, learners need to demonstrate a number of skills including: teamwork, project management (including action planning and target setting), effective communication, working independently and presentation skills.

There is great flexibility in the topic area chosen for the project, which should be agreed after discussion with the tutor. Some projects will require the production of a 'final product' in addition to the group report. Past examples chosen for this qualification include: Caffeine: a legal drug? Designing a school uniform. The effect of smoking on health. Does fashion turn full circle? Producing a children's book. Producing a brochure for foreign visitors.

Assessment

Assessment is through building up a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that all the assessment criteria have been met. This will include the completion of tasks and activities in a logbook. The portfolios are internally assessed, internally moderated within the centre and then externally moderated by OCNW. The portfolios may include a variety of evidence to demonstrate the assessment criteria have been met. Examples of the type of assessment that could be provided are: written questions and answers, group report, group presentation, oral questions and answers, written descriptions, reflective log / diary, role plays / simulations, video / DVD recordings, records of group discussions, witness statements.

If the learner fails to meet the assessment criteria on the first attempt at an activity, they may redraft the work / repeat the activity, following feedback given by the tutor. However, tutors must not correct the work of the learner and all feedback given by the tutor must be included within the learner's evidence.
